Supai, Arizona - Backpacking Itinerary

Havasupai

I'm 100% certain all my friends hate me for how much I have spammed them on social media about this trip. It is by far my favorite hike of all time. It's hard to believe a place like this exists - the red desert canyons, the icy blue waterfalls, luscious greenery, and brightest stars. That's all I really need to say, just go! It's 200% worth the pain.

Sunrise Hike into Canyon - 10 miles @4:30am

  • Hilltop to Supai village for check-in - 8 miles

  • Supai Village to Campground - 2 miles

Set up Campsite by River @11:00am

  • Relax, eat, replenish, enjoy the river

Day hikes - 4 miles RT @1:00pm

  • Campground to Havasu Falls - 1 mile

  • Havasu Falls to Navajo Falls - 1 mile

Day 2 - 8 miles RT

Day hikes

  • Campground to Mooney Falls - 1 mile

  • Mooney Falls to Beaver Falls - 3 miles

Day 3 - 10 Miles

  • Hilltop to Supai village for check-in - 8 miles

Reservations

Generally they are as follows and sell out as fast as Coachella tickets. I hear that calling for tickets is more effective than online.

  • February 1st @ 8am - Camping Reservations for the year

  • June 1st @ 8am - Lodging Reservations for the year

Airport distances to Trailhead

  • LAS Airport - 4 hour drive

  • PHX Airport - 5 hour drive

Additional Information

  • Helicopter ride - $85 one way per person. No online reservations, first come first serve at Supai village center & Hilltop Trailhead. First flight at 10am but people line up as early as 2am. Not ideal if you are in a rush to make a flight as you may not fly out until early afternoon.

  • Mules (packs only) - $132 one way, $264 round trip. Reservation needed a day in advance.

Tips (beyond what is available in links below)

  • Pack as light as possible. I overpacked food and clothes.

  • Hike as early as you can to avoid the heat

  • Bring a Dry Bag for river crossing hikes to protect your electronics

  • Vaseline for backpack chafing
